The Mon-Fayette Expressway (62 miles in length) is a planned four-lane toll facility from Morgantown, WV to Pittsburgh, PA. W.E.C. Engineers, Inc. performed the corridor location study for the 26 mile long southern portion of the expressway extending from Interstate 68 near Cheat Lake in West Virginia to U.S. 40 near Brownsville, Pa, in Fayette County. Three preliminary alternatives (including conceptual type, size & location plans for structures) were developed and evaluated by using both engineering and environmental criteria. The corridor location study included an environmental assessment as well as geo-technical investigations.
W.E.C. coordinated its efforts with the Executive Committee of the PA Turnpike and presented the project at public meetings. W.E.C. also prepared maps and displays to facilitate community support and understanding of the project. The corridor location study was expedited and completed in 18 months. This put the project ahead of schedule by 4 months.
