This project involved a consulting agreement for application development for ARC/INFO and the training a staff in the use of ARC/INFO and ArcView software. W.E.C. Engineers, Inc. developed an ARC/INFO application for the entry of oil and gas wells into a Geographic Information System (GIS) and a Graphic User Interface for automated editing, querying and plotting of the data. The initial programming code was written using W.E.C.’s hardware and then transferred to the computers. Recently, W.E.C. programmers updated the code to run on the Windows NT operating systems. W.E.C. personnel provided ARC/INFO and ArcView software training for the staff as well as instruction on using the Graphic User Interface.
The application allowed the user to enter missing location and attribute information about an oil or gas well. This was accomplished by the use of either a mouse or through an input screen, specifying the section and the x, y, offset.
The customized programming automated the process of locating the wells, calculating the true latitude and longitude values and updating in the database. A pop-up input screen also allowed the user to edit various fields in the database. A menu was created which provided for the selection of a subset of well locations based on database criteria. Finally, W.E.C. aided the staff with the graphic display and automated plotting through further AML programming
.
At this time, W.E.C. is in the process of migrating the application to ArcGIS 8.2 and the database to Oracle 8.1.7.
