U.S. Route 119 – Section D-20

W.E.C. Engineers, Inc. had complete responsibility for all surveying, soil investigation and design work (preliminary and final) for this 5 mile, 4-lane divided highway. The major components of this endeavor included:

  • Full four quadrant interchange with a major interstate highway

  • Relocation of approximately 1 mile of rail line

  • Major drainage structures

  • Grade separation structures

Rail-related design constraints mandated that the alignment of the relocated track and stream pass through the heart of the interchange. This, in turn, made it necessary to provide numerous structures over both existing and relocated facilities. Salient information regarding these structures are as follows:

  • Dual structures of a mainline over a railroad and stream for 382 feet

  • Single structure of Ramp A over a railroad and stream for 340 feet

  • Single structure of Ramp A over a railroad and stream for 573 feet

  • Metal plate ellipse culvert over a railroad and over a branch of the Sewickly Creek for 20 X 13 feet

  • Dual structures of a mainline over Borough Road for 206 feet

  • Dual structures of a mainline over L.R. 117 for 322 feet

The work was performed on a "fast track" basis in order to meet the scheduled opening of a major automobile manufacturing facility.

W.E.C. was responsible for:

  • Surveying

  • Soil Investigations

  • Preliminary and Final Design
