W.E.C. Engineers, Inc. is responsible for establishing a Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission. We also created custom applications for locating and managing bridges, exits, service plazas, maintenance districts and so forth.
The project builds on other GIS projects W.E.C has completed. These projects involved the conversion of AutoCAD drawings and the creation of a dynamically segmented route system for the centerline.
Custom applications for ArcView were created using Avenue, the programming language which is included with the ArcView package, and Visual Basic. The application automated attribute data retrieval and included customized zooming and identification functions.
W.E.C. also established a dynamic link between the FoxPro Bridge Log Database and GIS. This allowed the Turnpike to access existing data without the necessity of data conversion.
Project Highlights:
Creation of a dynamically segmented route system
Developing links to FoxPro and on the databases
Custom applications for automated attribute data retrieval
Custom applications for viewing, zooming and identifying features.
